WILL OBAMA HEED CONGRESS' APPEAL?

The criminal Palestinian "president" Mahmoud Abbas has said there is an "urgent" need for a UN resolution on Israeli settlements. When he arrives this week he reportedly will ask the Security Council to pass a resolution that will put a halt to all Jewish development in Jerusalem, Judea and Samaria.  He maintains that this freeze is a precondition to peace talks.

Obama has been treacherously threatening to withhold a veto but has received a letter from a very strong majority of Congress as reported in the Wall Street Journal to veto any such resolution as the US has always done in the past. Withholding a veto on an issue like this would be unprecedented in the history of US/ISRAEL relations.

As we have seen again and again, the PA and HAMAS have no intention of making peace. They won't be satisfied until they have ALL of Israel. Let them dream on.
How dare he even appear to ASK for that! ISRAEL IS FAR TOO STRONG FOR THEM TO EVEN ENTERTAIN SUCH A THOUGHT!

Tunnel
Tunnel Vision?

(As funny as this cartoon may be, residents living near Gaza are filled with stress and uncertainty, and their perseverance is a source of chizuk
for the rest of us)

Just yesterday a major sophisticated tunnel built by Hamas terrorists, running from Gaza into Israel was exposed by the IDF. Was the tunnel's discovery due to the new top secret tunnel-detection technology now in service, or was it due to the defection of a Hamas tunnel engineer "spilling his guts" to the Israelis?

Either way, we can breathe a sigh of relief that this tunnel was discovered and destroyed, and of course hope that all of these terror tunnels suffer the same fate.

As encouraging as this event is, we have an uneasy feeling that this episode follows a disturbing pattern displayed by Israeli leadership. That is, a pattern of not fighting to win. There are numerous examples that this mindset has taken hold:

Why, if if costs only "X" thousands of dollars for Hamas to develop kassem rockets, must Israel spend tens of millions of dollars or more to develop a defensive solution against the relatively crude rockets of the enemy? Not to say that Iron Dome is not amazing, and ditto for the new anti-tunnel technology. But what happened to fighting to win, aka, demolishing the enemy? If the "Palestinian" Arabs build tunnels to kill Israeli civilians and capture IDF soldiers, why not invade Gaza and destroy whatever infrastructure needs to be destroyed to get rid of the problem?

Another example is the government's refusal to implement the Levy Report (and make it official policy), which investigated the legal status of Jewish communities in Yehuda and Shomron, and determined that Israel's presence there is not an occupation.

Still another example is the Israeli government's seemingly half-hearted effort to destroy illegal Arab buildings throughout Israel, but specifically in Area C of Yehuda and Shomron, which is under full Israeli jurisdiction.

We have asked these questions many times. Of course, pressure from the US and Europeans is unbearable at times, and Prime Minister Netanyahu is probably doing an incredible balancing act. However, Israel is in a region where strength is respected and hesitation and half-hearted measures are viewed with contempt and bemusement.

Israel is working 24/7 to avert terror threats and ensure security on all its borders, and it would be naive and irresponsible to think otherwise. However, things just don't feel quite right. We would like to be proven wrong.

"The government is investing a fortune in thwarting the threat of tunnels. This is an ongoing effort; it does not end overnight; we are investing in it and will continue to invest steadily and firmly." - Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu

Mildred Ruttner former Park Slope Food Coop Member of 20 years. First Hand Report of APRIL 28, 2015 PARK SLOPE FOOD CO-OP INCIDENT

APRIL 28, 2015 PARK SLOPE FOOD CO-OP INCIDENT

By Mildred Ruttner former Park Slope Food Coop Member

The following is an incident which occurred at the Park Slope Food Co-op (co-op), which institution, in my opinion, blindly encourages dangerous political views in the name of democracy, as well as fulfilling its other purpose, and that is to sell organic food.

Certain co-op members also belong to an organization called "BDS" (boycott, divest, sanction). BDS's primary purpose is to destroy Israel financially by influencing businesses and organizations around the world to withdraw their support and their business from Israeli companies. They have been trying to get Israeli products off the co-op's shelves for the past eight years. At a prior attempt at a boycott vote in March, 2012 they were soundly defeated by our membership. But they still continue to harass the co-op membership and their last attempt was at a general meeting in April, 2015. They tried to put an item on the agenda for discussion which recommended that Sodastream, an Israeli company, be boycotted and that their product be removed from the co-op's shelves. This was their latest tactic. Instead of boycotting all Israeli products, which did not work in 2012, they decided it would be more effective to do one at a time.

In their attempt to present their agenda, the showed a video of someone in a uniform beating a civilian.  This and other pictures that were shown intimated that this was an Israeli soldier beating a Palestinian civilian.  Nobody on the agenda committee attempted to question the validity of this video beforehand and the impact caused an uproar when shown at the meeting where there were several hundred people. Someone on the Board of Directors suggested that this video be taken down. But the BDS faction overruled them and the video continued. This was the most disgusting and horrific example of fascism and anti-Semitic propaganda that I have ever experienced anywhere.

As a result, several pro-Israel people disrupted the meeting for 15-20 minutes by shouting "TAKE IT DOWN"  and it was finally taken down.  During this occurrence, I was told that one of the BDS members assaulted someone from the audience who participated in this disruption.

As a result of this incident, four people who participated in the objection to the video were consequently suspended one year later after a hearing committee decision and the BDS faction remains undisciplined and continues to spread their hatred in the co-op.  It is my humble opinion that if this continues, it will eventually cause a breakup of the co-op in which I have been a member for almost twenty years.

CUNY
ACTION ALERT!
To CUNY Alumni, Students and Professionals:
Sign the Petition Opposng BDS at CUNY!

Prof. Azriel Genack of Queens College is one of the few CUNY professors to actively oppose BDS within the City University system. He learned that anti-Israel forces have manipulated to stage an anti-Israel BDS vote late Friday afternoon (tomorrow!), and has initiated a counter-petition.

Please read his letter and sign the petition. Circulate this among CUNY Alumni, Students and Professionals ASAP!

Dear CUNY Students, Faculty and Alumni,

I write to urge you to stand against the resolution calling for a boycott of Israeli academic institutions to be voted upon at a hastily called meeting of the CUNY Doctoral Student Council this Friday, April 15th. The call for BDS is directed against the world's one Jewish state, so that there is no need for any qualifiers, such as in the phrase "BDS of Israel." This should make it clear that this resolution is not about constructive political process but rather about the delegitimization of a people.

If you are a CUNY alumnus, student or professional, I urge you to immediately sign the petition opposing BDS at CUNY at cunydocsfordialogue.com.

Please pass on this message to your friends and family.

Sincerely,
Azi Genack

Again
Dayenu - Again!

Yesterday we wrote about the double standard, haste and zeal with which the Israeli government acts against Jews, and not Arabs, specifically in the case of Jewish home demolitions but not of the thousands of illegal Arab structures throughout Israel.

We had hoped that this misplaced zealotry against Jews was just a series of isolated incidents and aberrations. Alas, as they are occurring time and again, we can only conclude that it is standard operating procedure and a double standard.

Just yesterday two Israeli soldiers were charged with burning a Palestinian Authority flag near a checkpoint. Arutz Sheva reported that both soldiers received punishment. One, a squad commander, has been stripped of his command and given a 20-day IDF military prison sentence; another has received a 28-day sentence.

Again we must ask, what is going in here? Prison sentences for burning an enemy flag? What about a prison sentence for the multitude of Arabs, both citizens of Israel and those under PA rule, who protest and burn the Israeli flag on a regular basis? What about a prison sentence for Arab members of Knesset who call out for the destruction of Israel from within the Knesset? What about a prison sentence for the Arab MK Haneen Zoabi who seditiously participated in the 2010 Gaza flotilla by joining other Israel haters on the Mavi Marmara trying to break through Israel's legal blockade of Gaza? What about a prison sentence for the owners and editors of Haaretz who climb all over each other trying to defame the state of Israel and who have asked Europe to 'rape' Israel?

If not for them, then why for a couple of Israeli soldiers who burnt a flag?

Yes, Israel is a democracy - a crazily vibrant one at that. However, when individuals call for the destruction of Israel from within Israel, is this not potentially violence-inducing; is it not sedition? Where is the Israeli government taking acting against Arabs? Why are they given a pass while the government acts with such zeal against Jewish protesters?

Israel has nothing to prove to the nations of the world. Her actions are for the most part, exemplary. This double standard is dangerous as it provides the rest of the world with an excuse to act against Israel. We say, it is time for equal justice across the land. No more pandering, no more excuses, no more giveaways, no more bending over backwards to show the world that justice is dispensed equally.

Israel must stand tall, secure in the knowledge that justice is on her side She must do what is necessary to win the war, be it on the battlefield, in the court of law, or in the court of public opinion. It is not a question of Right or Might. Israel is in the Right, and thank G-d, Israel has the Might. She must use it.

Postscript 1: And these people (the "Palestinians") want a state of their own? No. What they want is to deny the Jews a state of their own. (And this, from an Israeli citizen who is a Member of Knesset!)

West Point Military Academy: Mickey Marcus 50th Annual Memorial
The 50th Annual Mickey Marcus Memorial Service will be held at the Jewish Chapel of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point on Sunday, April 17, at 10 a.m.

Hosted by the American Veterans of Israel Legacy Corporation (AVILC), in conjunction with the Israeli Consulate in New York, the annual commemoration is in memory of Colonel David "Mickey" Marcus who was among the 41 U.S. and Canadian volunteers who gave their lives in Israel's War of Independence (1947-49).

This year's event will pay special tribute to Czech Republic and Slovakia. Their predecessor state, Czechoslovakia, during Israel's 1948 War of Independence, was the sole country to ignore the UN embargo on sale of arms to Israel. Its help allowed Israel to gain decisive air superiority and mount the ground offensive that ended the war on a victorious note. This crucial support was in line with a remarkable tradition
