| A report from last night's American Friends of Beit Orot Annual Dinner
| At the Beit Orot Dinner L-R: Judy Kadish, AFSI Co-Executive Director; Caroline Glick, Managing Editor of the Jerusalem Post; Helen Freedman, AFSI Executive Director |
Janet Lehr, longtime AFSI member and activist, reports from last night's Beit Orot dinner: A brief word about the very exciting evening at The American Friends of Beit Orot's Annual Dinner. In the packed Crown Plaza Grand Ballroom, a throng of excited supporters celebrated the purchase of land for the future Hesder Yeshiva and residences by the Moskowitz Family. The property in East Jerusalem sits on the Mount of Olives ridge, ideal for the mission of the Yeshiva, to introduce visitors to Israel to Har Habayit in the Holy Basin. The evening with Caroline Glick, the Managing Editor of The Jerusalem Post and Mekor Rishon Columnist, and Seth Schreiber, Dinner Chairman, pulsed with excitement. Seth Schreiber announced that the building permit has been issued - a great triumph. Caroline Glick was no less restrained extolling the People of Israel. "We, the People of Israel, in 68 years are able to meet the challenges of today. We are developing strategies to accomplish what we need and want to do. The Jewish People have never been so fortunate. We have the Jewish State with 6 million Jews; soon we will have over 1/2 of the Jewish population of the world. Everything about Israel is a miracle. Our partnership with Jews in the diaspora is important; we Israelis need to help these Jews. We are not reliant on others. We can solve our problems with LOVE, MONEY and ENTERPRISE. If I didn't believe we could do it, why would I write these columns? I made Aliyah in 1991. How many countries have grown as well in 20 years?" Turning to problems of J Street, Jewish Voices for Peace and BDS proponents, Glick said, "There are anti-hate laws in the United States. USE THEM." Closing, Caroline Glick beamed as she predicted: "In a decade, East Jerusalem will look different, Judea and Samaria will look different, the Galilee will look different, Yerushalayim will look different. LET US GO FORWARD!"
To which I say, Amen.

Par for the course
North Korea claims it has successfully detonated a hydrogen bomb. These claims may or may not be exaggerated, but either way, additional danger now lurks on the horizon.
After all, as John Podhoretz writes in today's New York Post, both North Korea and Iran are very aware of how the United States and the rest of the world reacted over the decades to the North Korean development of nuclear weapons.
Basically, this reaction has been to walk tall and carry a weak stick. In other words, Appeasement, with a capital 'A'.
To the great shame of the United States, the North Korean development effort spanned several decades and U.S. administrations, all of whom threatened the Koreans with action, but in the end, did nothing to stop their nuclear program.
Now, Iran is on the cusp of receiving more than $100 billion in sanctions relief. And what do they do? They perform illegal tests of nuclear-capable missiles. AKA, they spit in Obama's face.
And what does Obama do? He threatens Iran with sanctions and then back down. AKA, more appeasement.
What are we to make of this? Is this a Twilight Zone episode? A bad dream? A parallel universe?
Whatever it is, it is par for the course for our Commander in Chief. Walk tall and carry a big stick? Sure, make it a #3 Iron.
