The Disgrace Known as UNESCO
Danny Danon has done yeoman's work at the UN to legitimize Israel's presence in that anti-Israel, anti-Semitic body, with some real success. However, the venom continues to spew forth, as today's UNESCO vote shows.
Earlier today, the United Nations "cultural" arm, UNESCO - UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization - passed a resolution ignoring Jewish ties to the Temple Mount and the Western Wall in a move derided in Israel as "anti-Semitic" and absurd."
As reported, "the resolution used only Muslim names for the Jerusalem Old City holy sites and was harshly critical of Israel for what it termed "provocative abuses that violate the sanctity and integrity" of the area."
The tally was as follows: For: South Africa, Algeria, Bangladesh, Brazil, China, Egypt, Russia, Lebanon, Iran, Malaysia, Morocco, Mauritius, Mexico, Mozambique, Nicaragua, Nigeria, Oman, Pakistan, Qatar, the Dominican Republic, Senegal, Sudan, Chad and Vietnam
Against: Britain, the Netherlands, Lithuania, the US, Estonia and Germany
Abstentions: Albania, Argentina, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, El Salvador, Spain, France, Ghana, Greece, Haiti, India, Japan, Kenya, Nepal, Uganda, Paraguay, South Korea, Saint Kitts and Nevis, Slovenia, Sri Lanka, Sweden, Togo, Trinidad and Tobago, and Ukraine Absent: Turkmenistan and Serbia
Denouncements from Israeli officials came swiftly: President Reuvin Rivlin: "No forum or body in the world can come and deny the connection between the Jewish people, the Land of Israel and Jerusalem."
Agriculture Minister Uri Ariel wrote to PM Netanyahu stating, "We in the government in general, and you as the foreign minister, should demand that the nations of the world condemn these anti-Semitic decisions, and immediately stop funding the UN."
Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely stated "The Executive Board of UNESCO has disgraced its international mandate in this politicized and distorted resolution. The fact that more states abstained than supported the resolution underscores the deep reservations of many states with regard to this shameful resolution. The countries that supported this resolution have lent their voice to the lie propagated by the Palestinians that the Temple Mount is an exclusively Islamic site. This falsification of history is an affront to the ancient Jewish and Christian connections to Jerusalem." Hotovely:UNESCO decision an 'Affront' to Jews and Christians
PM Netanyahu stated, "To say that Israel has no link to the Temple Mount is like saying that China has no link to the Great Wall or that Egypt has no connection to the Pyramids," and "with this absurd decision UNESCO has lost what little legitimacy it still had." He also said UNESCO was ignorant regarding the Bible, and accused the body of taking part in a "Theater of the Absurd." Netanyahu leads angry denunciations of 'absurd' UNESCO decision
There is much more written about this UNESCO disgrace, including this thoughtful article in the Wall Street Journal which also criticizes the recent exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in NYC as a political attempt to delegitimize Israel. or via Google Search, click HERE.

Amona - What's Going To Be?
The Israeli government is on record as trying to find an acceptable solution to the "problem" that is Amona. It appears that the government is looking for a six month postponement of the town's demolition order. Naftali Bennett has threatened to withdraw his Bayit Yehudi party from the coalition if the order is carried out.
In the meantime, Daniel Greenfield has a great piece about Amona and Obama's obsession with it; this one in frontpagemag.com:
