SPRING COMMENCEMENT CEREMONY FOR FALL 2016 AND SPRING 2017 GRADUATES
WHEN AND WHERE
Our inaugural commencement as the CUNY Graduate School of Public Health & Health Policy will take place on June 1, 2017, at Harlem's world-famous Apollo Theater at 253 West 125th Street, from 5 – 7:30pm. Students may enter the Apollo Theater (please have your CUNY SPH ID and your ticket with you) beginning at 3:45pm, and must arrive no later than 4:15pm; guests will be admitted beginning at 4:15pm. Theater doors will close at 4:50pm. Graduates who arrive late will not be seated until the Procession and the National Anthem have been completed. Guests that arrive late will be ushered into the theater at an appropriate time, so as not to interrupt the ongoing ceremony.
Students and faculty will wear regalia and there will be a formal procession as the graduates enter the theater. The Apollo's 'Tree of Hope' will be onstage for grads to touch for good luck in the next phase of their public health careers.

Subject: Sarsour Update: No, sadly, the invitation has not been rescinded but here is the good news.....
To: Milton Mitzner <mmmitzner1@verizon.net>
Dear Friends of Israel and the Jewish People,
As of this moment, Sarsour's commencement invitation has not been rescinded. However, it is not too late to make phone calls and share new information about Sarsour and the Dean of the School of Public Health at CUNY:
1) Caroline Glick, in her article (the link appears below) exposes the truth about Dr. Ayman El-Mohandes, Dean of the School of Public Health (646-364-9771) who is responsible for inviting Sarsour as a commencement speaker and who is responsible for the graduation occurring on the Jewish holiday of Shavuot, June 1st.
2) Some heartening news: Joe Concannon, 2017 candidate for the NYC Council from Queens District 23, is holding a "Support Your Local Police" rally today at 3 p.m. at Queens Boro Hall to stop the city's honoring of anti-Semite Linda Sarsour at the CUNY graduation and Oscar Lopez Rivera at the Puerto Rican Day parade." (The flyer is attached.)
3) Hundreds of people, in the pouring rain, attended the protest in front of the CUNY administrative offices this past Thursday, which was organized by Pamela Geller. The protest was covered by the New York Times, which rarely covers a protest supportive of Israel. Although the article "whitewashed" Sarsour (e.g. her relationship with Louis Farrakhan, her misogynistic comments about women who expose the abuse of women by Muslims, her declaration of convicted terrorist Rasmeah Odeh as her hero, her admiration and sympathy for convicted Hamas terrorists, the absence of verification of "death threats" which she claims), its publication gives us the opportunity to write letters to the editor (letters@nytimes.com).
The link appears below at the end of the letter.
4) In the aftermath of the Manchester terror attack, Alan Dershowitz was interviewed on Fox News and mentioned the entire truth about Linda Sarsour. However, incredibly, he stated that her invitation should not be rescinded and said that "people should be outside the graduation handing out leaflets to educate everyone about Sarsour." WHICH PEOPLE??? Most of the "PEOPLE" he is talking about will be observing the holiday of Shavuot and/or going to Yiskor services on June 1st!
5) Good news: Linda Sarsour made a decision NOT to run for the New York City Council in 2017 to represent her district in Brooklyn. Bad news: she has thrown her support behind someone who champions her views, Rev. Khader El-Yateem. Hopefully, soon, we will have more information about what we can do.
6) It's not too late to call and write (writing enables you to request a response):
James Milliken, CUNY Chancellor: 646-664-9100 chancellor@cuny.edu
Governor Cuomo: 212-257-6405
Jewish Community Relations Council Leaders, Charles Temel, Pres. (ctemel@aol.com) and Michael Miller, Exec. V.P. and CEO (millerm@jcrcny.org) of the Jewish Community Relations Council: 212-983-4800 (Where are the voices of the leaders of our Jewish Community?)
THIS IS NOT AN ISSUE OF FREEDOM OF SPEECH! SARSOUR HAS THE FREEDOM TO SPEAK IN AN INFINITE NUMBER OF VENUES. SPEAKING AT A COMMENCEMENT IS NOT A "RIGHT." CUNY HAS NO OBLIGATION TO INVITE HER TO SPEAK. NOW THAT CUNY KNOWS THE UGLY TRUTH ABOUT SARSOUR, THEY HAVE THE OBLIGATION TO RESCIND HER INVITATION.
HOLDING A GRADUATION ON A JEWISH HOLIDAY AND INVITING A SPEAKER WHO HAS MADE THREATENING STATEMENTS AGAINST A GROUP OF PEOPLE BASED ON THEIR RELIGION AND BELIEFS MAY BE A VIOLATION OF THE FEDERAL CIVIL RIGHTS ACT. IF WE ARE NOT MISTAKEN, CUNY RECEIVES FEDERAL FUNDING FOR SOME OF ITS PROGRAMS.
Please continue to help spread the truth about Linda Sarsour,

The Left is empowering Sarsour not despite her views, but because of them. |
