The purpose of today's protest is to demand that CUNY rescind Linda Sarsour's invitation to be the commencement speaker at CUNY's School of Public Health.   This is not an issue of freedom of speech. 

CUNY has no obligation to extend an invitation to a woman whose abhorrent words and actions are antithetical to the inclusive, tolerant, and non-discriminatory values upon which CUNY was founded.    

CUNY should not be offering their prestigious platform to Linda Sarsour, an individual who:  

• applauds terrorist acts against Israel;
• declared as her hero a terrorist who was convicted of killing Jewish innocents and wounding others
• proudly shared a stage with a man convicted for aiding Hamas terrorists; 
• has used language that incites violence and hatred of women who expose abuse of women in the Islamic world;

• discriminates against women who support the right of Israel to exist as a Jewish state;
• seeks to destroy Israel through the implementation of boycott, divestment, and sanctions; and

•  incites violence and hatred toward women who expose the abuse of women by Muslims.

Allowing Sarsour to speak would confer legitimacy on the hatred that she represents.  CUNY, an institution which is funded with the public's money (our taxes!) and which serves all the citizens of this city and state should not give its imprimatur to someone who discriminates against others and engages in the demonization of a substantial segment of N.Y.'s population.  

Demand that CUNY, a venerable academic institution that was founded by Jewish people to provide an affordable, excellent college education for students of all races, religions, nationalities, and cultures, provide a commencement speaker for its School of Public Health who is worthy of this invitation.
