Shabbat
Shabbat in Jerusalem:
A Day of Rest, Learning and Contemplation

Shabbat, June 4
The group had a restful Shabbat in Yerushalayim, where they were in walking distance to the Great Synagogue, the Kotel, and a host of sites throughout the city. They had the privilege of having lunch with Mrs. Irving Moskowitz and her daughter, Laurie Hirsch, tremendous supporters of Israel and the right of Jews to live anywhere within the Land, especially eastern Jerusalem.

With Shabbat in Jerusalem over, Rebbetzin Libby Kahane, widow of Meir and grandmother of Meir Ettinger spoke to the #Chizuk group. They discussed the problems with administrative detention among other topics.

A representative of Honenu, a group that represents Jews unjustly accused and prosecuted, also joined the group.

It was a great way to end a beautiful day on a high note. So much food for thought!

Meeting with Rebbetzin Kahane and Honenu

Sunday, June 5 - Yom Yerushalayim
Sunday morning, Dan Luria of Ateret Cohanim guided the group for a walk through Silwan, the Yemenite Village, and Kidmat Zion. Long time director of Beit Orot, Shlomo Zwickler, led the group for a tour of Beit Orot on Har HaZeitim, the Mount of Olives. The photo below shows several members of the Chizuk group posing against the beautiful Jerusalem landscape at Emek Tzurim on Yom Yerushalayim.

Later in the day, the group enjoyed the Yom Yerushalayim festivities including a spectacular parade that ran through the city and ended at the Kotel.

Meanwhile, back in New York City,
everyone loves a parade!

Yom HaAtzmaut and Yom Yerushalayim

The annual Israel Day Parade on Sunday went off without a hitch despite the downpours of rain on and off during the day. Thousands marched, including dozens of groups of Jewish school children, and their energy, enthusiasm and love of Israel were on display. Spectators lined Fifth Avenue cheering them on, showing support for Israel and having fun.

The only downside to the day was the cancellation of the yearly Concert in the Park, a happening with great music and a roster of great speakers. Hopefully next year!

Even Dr. Ruth likes a parade!

As does the Mayor!

Fwd: Boker Tov! Israel Concert in the Park cancelled due to rain. Message from Dr. Joe Frager, Concert Organizer & Dr. Paul Brody, Concert Chairman

bs"d

Please disseminate the unfortunate news to your email lists.

Israel Concert in the Park cancelled due to rain.
Dr. Joe Frager, Concert Organizer & Dr. Paul Brody, Concert Chairman

My comments:

What a Shame!

Today, the 28th day in Iyar, marks the 49th Anniversary of Yom Yerushalayim  where we celebrate open miracles of  the Six Day War in 1967 and the Reunification of  Har HaBayit, Chevron, Judea and Samaria....an actualization of our prayers and yearnings after 2000 years!

This should have marked a major milestone.

So why was it barely acknowledged?

Other than this concert were there any other celebrations organized by the Government of Israel to celebrate this unbelievable milestone in the relatively short lifespan of the State of Israel?

Ruben Margolis the President of the Brooklyn Region of ZOA was recently honored at Emunah's Brooklyn Supperette. He spoke passionately about the Open Miracles of the Six Day War this past Wednesday night June 1, 2016 and the Kingsway Jewish Center.

Is it my imagination or is Yom Yerushalyim  getting far too little attention this year from the goverment!  Probably I am hypersensitive.

BH the webcam shows that the Kotel is getting energetic crowds.

From the government there has been much hype affirming Israel's commitment to  the 2 State Solution and the "peace process".

WHY!!!  For this we elected Lieberman? ...

We on the right, agree with our enemies that Prime Minister Netanyahu is bluffing with these reassurances. It is merely to satisfy world opinion and indeed these assurances hold no water. Those of us who are true believers in the Torah are quite happy for Israel to officially annex and assert sovereignty over Judea and Samaria! We welcome non Jews to be residents of Israel, and enjoy full civil rights so long as they accept Israel's Sovereignty and wish to abide by the 7 Noahide laws.

Perhaps a lack of excitement and gratitude for a miracle of such magnitude shows that our people need to be more deserving....

On the other hand, Organizers and the supporters of this concert put in tremendous efforts and may they go from strength to strenth!

May each setback simply be another stepping stone to future success and may we merit soon speedily in our days,  a gala, united and joyous celebration for the reunification of Jerusalem, Hebron, Judea and Samaria!

With G-d's help, see you next year in Jerusalem!

KT Robin

Chizuk
The June 2016 AFSI Chizuk Mission Continues!

Day 2
The group started the morning with a visit to Akko, that beautiful and historic city on the Mediterranean that houses the infamous Akko prison where many Jewish heroes were hung by the British during the battle for Palestine. AFSI's guiding light, Ze'ev Jabotinsky, also was imprisoned there. In Akko they met Aharon Pulver, head of the Israel Independence Fund, who accompanied the group on a tour of the underground city of Akko, with a special guide.

Beautiful view of Akko

The group then moved on to Beit Lohamai Haghetaot, The Ghetto Fighters' House Museum, located on the Coastal Highway (Route #4) between Akko and Nahariya.

This is a fascinating museum, being established in April 1949 on a hill overlooking the Akko valley using old buildings of the British Army. Among the founders, all of whom were Holocaust survivors, were the last remaining survivors of the Warsaw Ghetto Revolt, partisans, prisoners of concentration camps, those who went into hiding using a false identity and those who escaped to the USSR.

The last stop of the day was at Rosh Hanikra, "where the sea meets the cliffs", home of beautiful grottoes and the world-famous cable car. A little-known fact, this cable car is the steepest in the world.

Rosh Hanikra is also the meeting point of the Israel and Lebanese border, where one can see the tunnel dug here in 1943 to extend the Cairo-Haifa rail line to Beirut.

Back at Kibbutz Lavi, the group met with Golan Schwartz, Director of External Relations for Yeshivat HaGolan, the Hesder Yeshiva on the Golan Heights. Golan lives in Hispin, very close to the Syrian border, and described what life is like for him, his family and neighbors in this very tense area.
