BS"D

Rabbi Moshe and Leah Goldsmith of Itamar visiting the USA and Tri STate Area!

There are still available spots for speaking opportunities -anyone interested please contact them at – leamoshe@netvision.net.il

Rabbi Moshe Goldmith emailed me:

On behalf of Itamar, I would greatly appreciate it if you can spread the word by emailing all your friends and relatives telling them to join our newsletter. We have little "sharing icons" on all our webpages to make it easy for you to spread the word. Of course, Facebook is a great tool for getting the word out.

Ain Torah KeTorat Eretz Yisroel!  No Torah can compare to the Torah of Eretz Yisroel!  Rabbi Moshe Goldsmith and his dear wife Leah brings us the Torah of Eretz Yisroel.  Their words are Gems! The Land is Precious! They are here to share these Jewels with us in Chutz LeAretz.  How are we so blind not to take advantage????

MUST WATCH AND READ! In Parshat Vayishlach Rabbi Goldsmith talk's about Gid Hanashe and the commandment not to eat from the Gid Hanashe.
Gid hanasheh (Hebrew: גִּיד הַנָּשֶׁה‎) is the term for sciatic nerve in Judaism. It may not be eaten by Jews according to Halacha (Jewish Law). The laws of prohibition regarding the gid hanasheh are found in Masechet Chullin (Hullin) Perek 7.

This according to the Midrash,  was to correct the sin of Yaakov's sons who let him travel alone at night thereby subjecting him to fight the Sar shel Eisav, Eisav's protecting angel, on his own.  This commandment was to remind them and future generations, us,  to feel the pain of Yaakov now limping as result of his struggle with the Sar of Eisav.  Surely this is a hint to us here in Chutz Learetz not to abandon our brothers and sisters, few in number, fighting the modern day Sar of Eisav. Not only do the residents of Judea and Samaria, H-ly Jews,  struggle daily with blood thirsty terrorists, they fight slander, false reports, global lies, directed against them. This slander, fuels terror and attempts to destroy the economy of Judea and Samaria as well as the economy of Israel.

After this struggle with the Sar of Eisav, Yaakov Avinu's name was changed from Yaakov to Yisroel by the Sar of Eisav to show that even though it appeared that Yaakov received the birthright deceptively, as is hinted in his name Yaakov which means crooked, not straight, he is entitled to this birthright because it is Yasher, righteous and straight as is hinted in his new name Yisroel!

When we are judged in a heavenly court, as we all are, we don't want to be ashamed, how come we failed to partner and to give Chizuk with our brothers and sisters in Judea and Samaria? What will we answer when they ask us "Were we Chazaq and did we fight strong and proud against the Sar of Eisav in our time?  Did we proclaim CHOFETZ CHAIM,  we Choose Life to Israel in response to the chants Death, Death to Israel and Intifada, Intifada!!!!?"

Let us hope and pray that we do not abandon our brothers and sisters in their hour of need and we bring Nachat Ruach to our Father in Heaven as they did at the Litman, Biegel wedding, where the Chatan and Kallah were residents of Judea and Samaria.  At this wedding, Am Yisreol, danced in Unity, Dati Leumi, Charedi and Chiloni, a dance to heal the painful wound, to right a wrong, to overcome the Sar of Eisav collectively.  This is the proper Tikkun, Beezrat Hashem,  to own up to our collective abandonment of the Settlement community by allowing and leaving the struggle of the powerful Sar of Eisav to them alone.

The Litman Biegel Wedding!!! Mazel Tov!!!

As Sarah Techiya cried out at the Shiva, ..."The pain is just so great," she said. "I want to tell our leaders that there are many ways to kill – with a knife, a gun, or a rifle, and with an ambulance, such as the one of the Red Crescent Society that refused to stop for us.
'We don't deserve this' http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/203423#.VlrSUnarRdh
"There is no security here in Kiryat Arba," she said. "My father would always take a gun with him when he left town, and we always had to figure out when a bulletproof bus would come by. We don't deserve this. The Land of Israel belongs to us and we should be able to live here proudly. The Palestinians do not deserve to be able to so confidently move around. They drive like animals, and there is no enforcement of traffic laws. That, too, is a way to murder someone."

WATCH: Join the Simcha of Sarah Techiya Litman who lost her father and brother in a terror attack as she gets married in Israel.
Guests from around the world have traveled to Israel for the wedding of Sarah Techiya Litman who lost her brother and father in a terrorist attack.
It would have been understandable if Sarah Techiya Litman and Ariel Biegel of Israel decided to have a private, low-key wedding. After all, their original wedding date, Nov. 17, had to be postponed after Sarah's father and 18-year-old brother, Yaakov and Netanel Litman, were killed by terrorists just days before the wedding while en route to a pre-wedding celebration.
Instead, the couple has decided to invite Jews everywhere to join them. Among the thousands of expected guests will be many who are coming from as far as Australia and the United States, representing family and friends back home. To accommodate the crowds, the wedding has been relocated to the Jerusalem International Convention Center.
"Don't let our enemies rejoice. We have fallen and we have risen," wrote the couple. "With G-d's help, our wedding will take place next Thursday, 26 November, 14 Kislev, at Binyanei Hauma in Jerusalem. The Jewish nation is invited to rise from the dust and celebrate with us."

Shidduch Prayers of the Chidah and the Shelah Hakadosh and R'Dolinsky. Tehilim 121 Esa Einai El HeHarim Meayin Yavo EZRI...

bs"d

Thank you Tiferes Perluss for sending ....

B'H

HI! Good Erev Shabbos.

Below are the Shiduch prayers of the Chidah and Shelah Hakadosh as well as a short on by R' Dolinsky.  I was so excited to find these.  They aren't a required part of this tehilim group but I believe that it would be a very good idea to say one of them each Shabbos before or after your tehilim if you can to set the kavana about what you're davening for.  They are also great for reading at a friend's chuppah or anytime! I put the one from R'Dolinsky, someone in our generation, to make the piont that the prayer that you compose yourself and that comes from your own words and heart is the one Hashem wants to hear the most because you mean it.  The Shelah and Chidah were great Tzadikim and kabbalists and saying thier words connects you to them and the intentions they had behind the words.  They can also be a springboard for you to develop ideas for how to speak to Hashem in your own language.  Also R'Dolinsk's prayer is short for those who need that ;)  It was composed with the intention to be inserted at the end of Shemoneh Esrei, just after the blessing for peach and before "may they find favor..." ("yiheyu l'ratzon") which is a time that one is encouraged to use thier own words in a personal prayer.

The prayer of the Shelah also has a men's version which, for hopefully obvious reasons, was omitted from this email.  For those who know someone  who's interested in that prayer they can check it out http://www.shidduchim.info/torah.html

It's a zechus to have the words of these holy Tzadikim the Chidah and Shelah to use to pray for our soulmate but do you know who else's Shiduchim prayer we still have till today? Surprise! YAAKOV AVINNU's! and it's in this week's parasha Vayetzei when he davens for a wife.  It's actually one of the Special tehilim's that we are going to be saying iyh on every non Shabbos Mevarchim Shabbos.  It's CHAPTER 121.  "Shir lamalot esa aynay el heharim mayayin yavo ezri....."  "A song of ascent I lift my eyes to the mountains from where does my help come?" The word "ezri" which is normally translated as "help" can also signify his "ezer kenegdo" His help-mate/soulmate.  May we all merit, in the right time, to have the clarity that Yaakov had when he met Rachel without any doubts but with joy. (and may it be mutual of course ;)

This prayer was composed by Rabbi Mordechi Dolinsky

The following prayer can be inserted at the end of the Shemoneh Esrei, just after the blessing for Peace, and before "May they find favor..." ("Yiheyu l'ratzon"):

Rabbi Dolinksy's Short Prayer for a Shidduch [Click the hyperlink for a text version]Shlah's Prayer for a Man's Shidduch (Hebrew)

Translation of the Prayer composed by the Holy Shelah

May it be Your will Hashem, my God and God of my forefathers, that You find for me with your many mercies and the greatness of Your kindness, my true and befitting marriage partner at the right time. The right partner, worthy of having children, a learned man, great in Torah and the fear of Heaven, born from the seed of righteous and truthful men who have fear of sin. Just like You found the true partner for Adam Ha-Rishon, for Avraham, Yitzchak, Yaakov and Moshe, each one his true partner at the right moment and time. And please let the partner that You choose for me be a good man, one with pleasantness of action, a master of good deeds, a man of grace with intelligence and fear of God, a pursuer of charity and a doer of kindnesses. May he not have even a little insufficiency, or physical defect, or imperfection, and not be an angry or aggressive man. May he just be modest with a humble spirit, healthy, and strong. And please don't allow any interference from ruthless individuals or enemies whose intentions and manipulations would aspire to prevent me from meeting my marriage partner.

May the words of my mouth and the thoughts of my heart find favor before You, Hashem, my Rock and my Redeemer.

______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

This prayer of the Shelah was composed for men.  The English version below has been modified but the hebrew you'll need to do yourself.

Shlah's Prayer for a Woman's Shidduch (Hebrew)

The following prayer was composed by the Chida, in his book, Kaf Achas (One Spoon)  (sem-modified for woman)

Master of the universe, with Your kindness You formed the world and created man, and made for him a counterpart, and commanded him to take a wife and bring forth children. And Your servants, the Rabbis of blessed memory, were stringent not to delay this mitzvah since a man's life in both this world and the next world practically relies on women, and due to our many transgressions, there are no longer prophets or men with divine inspiration to enlighten each of us as to who our is our best partner to fulfill this mitzvah. And so I come to You with a broken heart to lay down my prayers before You, Hashem, my God and the God of my forefathers, that You should increase Your mercy on me and bring for me a pleasant partner, one with fear of God, a woman (man) with good character, and good mazal, good intellect successful, and blessed, and with this I will be able to do Your holy service without being burdened. And let it be that the girl (boy)suggested to me will be befitting, that she (he) really is compatible with me. Your great mercy should come to me, to bend my heart to make the commitment to her (him) so that I shall be able to fulfill Your will and it will be good for me in this world and the next world.

Oh God, Who is good and filled with mercy, the One who is merciful, forgiving, Who guards, my supporter, and my rescuer. The One Who is honest, my redeemer. Please help me with this, for the honor of Your name. Act for the sake of Your Name. Act for the sake of Your right hand. Act for the sake of Your Torah. Act for the sake of Your Holiness. Forgive me, answer me, and hear my prayers to You. For You are the One who hears the prayers from all mouths. The source of all blessings is He Who hears all prayers. May the words of my mouth and the thoughts of my heart find favor before You, Hashem, my Rock and my Redeemer.

Re: Being thrown out of Park Slope Food Coop - BDS vs BSD

bs"d

Dear Members of the Park Slope Food Coop and Barbara Mazor of stopbdsparkslope.blogspot.org

I see no reason to remove the page nor any links on twitter or fb  addressing what happened in the food Coop meeting and what followed the meeting.  I have recently updated this link to include videos of BDS disruptions of freedom of speech on college campus. It is quite clear from these videos that in fact  BDS interrupters have trail-blazed the way for the stifling of free speech.  It is precisely for this reason they must be disciplined and their agenda exposed.  Since their agenda is based on lies and falsehoods and to support and abet terror, they should be disciplined, thrown out of the COOP and if not, disrupters of  BDS presentations should be applauded and encouraged!  The BDS group deserve far worse than disruptions for their support of Intifada! The recent terror attacks, mostly in Judea and Samaria, territories that they call the "occupied West Bank" 0ver 270 terror attacks in just the week of Nov 20, 2015 through Nov 27,2015 alone, is justified according to their poisonous BDS Narrative. Please note that most of the terrorists were Israeli Palestinian kids, many of whom were in no way deprived especially compared to Arabs in other Arab countries,  many of them teens brought up nurtured on lies and hate very similar to BDS propaganda giving them license to commit suicide,  murder and kill innocent men, women and children old and young alike, and call it "armed struggle against the evil occupation for the sake of Allah".  It is pure evil!

We welcome that Park Slope Food Coop lifted the suspension against the 4 members of the Coop.  We understand that there are those who would prefer this not be publicized. This should just be the beginning.  We greatly appreciate your efforts in this regard. We strongly feel that negative publicity  about the BDS group and those who help their agenda is instrumental in getting the suspension lifted so quickly.

Our goal is not merely to reinstate those unfairly suspended. However, it is a welcome development.

The goal is to address BDS in the Park Slope Food COOP and to stop their BDS poison and that only happens with education and when freedom of speech is not hampered!

It may cause some backlash and we must brace ourselves. Not run from it!

If my post is harmful for them then it is because they are reaping what they sowed.

I see no reason to hide the facts as they are.  We have just begun to scratch the surface. The disciplinary committee was overzealous and they are not blameless. But they are not the root of the matter as you yourself suggest.  However it is good to make amends when one is at fault.

So we have yet to come to the root of the problem..... Where is the oversight on those who choose the agenda for the COOP? What is stopping them from inserting their personal poisonous agenda of BDS on the Coop membership?

The Correction:

Promoting Jewish settlement, and featuring the Jewish farmers and their families in  Judea and Samaria, would be a welcome and refreshing item that should be scheduled as one of the Coop upcoming events, and featured in their newspaper. You, I understand also agree.  It will show that indeed the Coop board is open and not biased nor anti-Semitic nor anti-Zionist and they welcome freedom of speech!

The event should not be disrupted and all the disciplinary rules should be put into effect if any of the BDS people choose to come and disrupt. Let them be suspended and then expelled from the Coop if they disrupt such a pro Israel event.  And my guess is that they will come and harass because they can't tolerate free speech.  We on the other hand believe we have very good reason to disrupt poisonous BDS material on the Agenda and the two sides are not morally equivalent!

We are not naive and can expect from their past history that they will come to disrupt good ideology.

Case in point... Has any pro Judea and Samaria event such as this one ever been scheduled at the Park Slope Food Coop?????  I am confident to guess that you never tried because it would be labeled as inflammatory....Please prove me wrong and I will be happy to admit I made a mistake. And if they came and disrupted, would you be as aggressive and suspend them as you did our group?

It is our position that the disruption against the BDS presenters was a positive action needed to remove a dangerous agenda.

All would agree that poison should not be ingested especially in an organic Food Coop GM meeting.

So I reiterate.  The matter at hand is not whether or not there was a disruption but whether or not the BDS agenda of the GM meeting was poisonous
... and that is our position...-
so, if this being the case,  how did it get on the agenda in the first place.  There are surely individuals high up in the food coop management pushing the BDS agenda.... Why????

It is also our position that the Promotion of Judea and Samaria and their products is wholesome and healthy and should be encouraged! Anyone looking at the reality with an open mind will agree.

If we succeed merely to annul the suspension there is nothing that will stop the poison to resurface other than the fact that their BDS agenda is exposed and attacked.  They will surely claim to be the horrible victim of "Israel Occupation lovers" as they will label us. They will claim to feel unsafe in the Coop etc. as they did in their report even though there was no physical violence whatsoever as you yourselves admitted.

And if you argue they are primarily interested in social justice, let us arrange for an open and fair discussion.  Those in favor of Jewish Settlement in Judea and Samaria will show that according to the Bible, the G-d of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob has designated the Land of Israel to the Nation of Israel as the intended recipient and fulfillment of G-d's Promise.

We can discuss the teachings of Mohammad and Mohammad as a role model in today's Muslim society. A world today of devout Muslims who behead, rape and pedophile. A theological discussion with the backdrop of what ISIS has been doing to the Yezidi and Christian communities and the recent terror attack in Paris. .

This of course is their biggest fear.  Because their ultimate goal is to stifle such an agenda.

If the Coop is unable to have open discussions without fear of attack or harassment on the Pro Israel and Pro Judea and Samaria supporters who then feel unsafe and unwelcome for good reason, and if the Coop is unwilling to discipline these agitators,  than we will not be deterred....

Let us take this opportunity to finally right a wrong that has been perpetrated against Israel and against the good farmers settling the Holy Land, once again making the desert bloom...who have been slandered and physically attacked justified by those who claim their armed struggle is justified in the face of "unlawful Occupation" of Israel.

BDS and Muslim victimhood and unlawful Occupation vs Israel's entitlement to Settle it's Biblical Homeland Judea and Samaria

Furthermore, it will be proven without a shadow of a doubt that BDS is out to destroy the livelihoods of law abiding, productive, honest families living in Judea and Samaria and that these law abiding productive and honest farmers have much to offer the world and the COOP in particular. when it comes to organic farming.

Not visa versa cause BDS has nothing to offer except misplaced BDS anger.

Economically, those that live in peace with the farmers in Judea and Samaria have much to gain as did those Arabs who were employed in Gush Katif before it was uprooted (for absolutely no good reason and southern Israel was subsequently subjected to hostile ongoing rocket attacks in place of blooming, beautiful neighboring Jewish farming communities).

The Palestinians employed by Soda Stream had it much better than the Arabs who worked for Arabs and that is a fact.  Many Palestinians were put out of business by the BDS campaign. The BDS agenda isn't really concerned about employment of Arabs nor about healthy organic eating....  Just about ruining employment of Jews and ruining the economy of Israel!

The BDS agenda is out to financially destroy anyone in Judea and Samaria and Israel and Israel's economy who dare to proudly say we are here to stay and we have Divine entitlement!  Israel is just the canary and the rest of the world is the their ultimate goal!!!!

PS: Please let the Park Slope Food COOP know that  we believe in freedom of speech and that no one has control over what is posted on twitter, fb or website regarding this matter.

Again Yasher Koach on all your excellent Pro Israel Activism and may we be united in standing strong for a United Israel which encompasses Judea and Samaria the Biblical heartland and of course our very H-ly Temple Mount, Jerusalem our yearnings and aspirations as a Nation, the Jewish people for thousands of years....

Thanks and KT!

Sincerely,

Robin

Dear Friends,

* We are happy to present to you the 6th issue of our Sovereignty Journal which is being distributed this week in 150,000 copies all over Israel,

in Hebrew and in English, this  as part of the campaign we have been promoting to change the public consciousness from the suicidal "two-state plan" to the Zionist vision of Israeli Sovereignty over the Land.

Obviously it is better to read a hard copy of the journal,

so please email us your snail mail address so we can send you copies (tell us how many copies you want so you can hand them out too if you wish)

* The additional exciting news is that a few weeks ago we have founded a Sovereignty youth group (ages 16-25) who will promote Sovereignty among the younger generation. They call themselves ERETZ (Irgun Ribonut Tsa'ir- Sovereignty youth group) . We have 23 people who are the core activists and they are now starting to get organized.

No doubt, the Sovereignty campaign is catching on, with more and more public figures and people talking about it and calling for its application. It is very exciting. It's really like organizing a Zionist revolution in the public consciousness. There is obviously still much much work to be done but we are in the right direction.

Waiting to receive your address so we can send you copies of Sovereignty 6

PRESS RELEASE

Especially Now: Issue no. 6 of Sovereignty has been published

Against the backdrop of political, security and economic pressure, the new issue of the Sovereignty journal is being published, in which there are articles by leading public figures who call for the implementation of the vision of sovereignty over Judea and Samaria.

These days of terror and political pressure from both within and without, with Europe conducting an economic boycott, the White House pressuring Prime Minister Netanyahu back into diplomatic negotiations, and the radical Left again trying to sell the 'two states' idea, Women in Green is publishing the sixth issue of the Sovereignty journal.

In the new issue, as in its predecessors, there are interviews and articles of several public figures in the fields of law, academia, philosophy and politics, who call for the promotion of the vision of applying Israeli sovereignty over all areas of Judea and Samaria.

Women in Green leaders, Yehudit Katsover and Nadia Matar, call on Prime Minister Netanyahu to exhibit the same strong stance that he showed in the matter of the Iranian nuclear project and the same assertiveness that he exhibited against the European economic boycott, which is aimed toward Israel in general and toward industry in Judea and Samaria in particular, and not to capitulate to the edict of the 'two states' idea.  The two women call on Netanyahu, as well as on the government's ministers, members of Knesset and public figures on the Israeli Right to return to the Zionist, ethical and Jewish vision of the application of Israeli sovereignty over Judea and Samaria, a vision that will also be an answer to the escalation in the security situation. "When it is clear to the Arab enemy that the People of Israel does not have any doubt about its right to the Land, when it is clear that the State of Israel  exhibits its determination to hold on to this Land, the idea of establishing a terror state in the heart of Israel, an idea that encourages the spirit of Arab terror, will fade away".

In the new issue of Sovereignty one can read the words of the minister of tourism, Yariv Levin, who calls for promoting legislation in the spirit of the vision of sovereignty; the words of the head of the Legal Forum for the Land of Israel, Atty. Yossi Fuchs, who explains the State of Israel's true standing in the territories of Judea and Samaria and says that the only occupation that has been in the area throughout history is none other than the Arab occupation.

In another interview, Rav Eliezer Waldman tells of the first steps in establishing Kiryat Arba-Hevron, steps that began in the room of Rav Tzvi Yehuda Kook, who sent him and Rav Moshe Levinger, obm, to the mission of settlement, which caused a revolution in the field. General (res.) Uzi Dayan, a former deputy chief of staff, sketches a security map and states that if the People do not have a real familiarity with the Land, it is impossible to love it. The head of the Yesha Council, Avi Roe, in an interview with Sovereignty, encourages Women in Green, which promotes the idea of sovereignty.

Additional interviews and articles deal with the positive changes in American politics, with humanism according to a faith-based approach and more.

Katsover and Matar see the publication of the new issue as part of a renewed momentum in the sovereignty campaign, which Women in Green are leading, a campaign that has broad resonance with the Israeli public and among leading public figures. Many youths from throughout the country have also joined the campaign recently, also with the intention of carrying the banner of the Right's political vision among those of their own age.

"The leadership of the radical Left is indeed attempting to return to the idea of establishing a Palestinian terror state, which has been shown to be impossible and hopeless, but the people in Israel have become wise and understand that it has been paying for the idea in much blood and now seeks an alternative vision", say Katsover and Matar and add: "This is the time and this is the era to return to the Zionist, Jewish, ethical and secure vision, the vision of sovereignty".

Issue no. 6 of Sovereignty will begin distribution this coming weekend in approximately one hundred thousand copies in Hebrew and another fifty thousand copies in English, which will also go to public opinion shapers and politicians in Europe and the U.S.

LastDay
Today - the last day of the 2015 Fall AFSI Chizuk Mission

Today, Marc Prowisor of the One Israel Fund arranged an amazing itinerary for the group's last day. In the morning they took a jeep tour through the Judean hills, and later in the day they drove to the Jericho area where they met the Magilot Volunteer Desert Rescue Squad and learned about the critical work they do.

Later, they traveled to the Jewish community of Givat Ze'ev to show solidarity with the town's residents and to participate in a demonstration against the government's decision to demolish the Ayelet HaShachar Synagogue there.

It was announced earlier today that the Israeli Supreme Court denied a request to delay the synagogue's demolition:

The 2015 Fall AFSI Chizuk Mission concluded with a festive farewell gala dinner
at the Jerusalem Grill restaurant on Rivlin Street in Jerusalem.

We hope you enjoyed this day-by-day picture tour of
AFSI's 2015 Fall Mission, and are inspired to join AFSI on its
Spring 2016 Mission, May 31 - June 8.

Celebrate Yom Yerushalayim with AFSI in Israel!

Labels
EU Approves New Labeling Guidelines
for Israeli Products
The European Union, to their eternal shame, has just approved new labeling guidelines for Israeli products from beyond the "Green Line". This includes goods from Yehuda and Shomron, eastern Jerusalem and the Golan Heights.

As Prime Minister Netanyahu stated, "The E.U. should be ashamed." "The E.U. has decided to label Israel, and we are not prepared to accept the fact that Europe is labeling the side that is being attacked by terrorism."

This story is all over the press, and we link to a few articles, mainly from Arutz Sheva:

Lost
Is Europe Lost?

We are hearing more and more the concern coming from Europeans about the out-of-control influx of refugees from the Middle East to Europe. However, as he so cleverly does time after time for so many world events, Yaakov Kirschen captures the essence of this disaster in his Dry Bones cartoon below.

Westchester
Westchester County should be ashamed of itself!

Much to his credit, the Mayor of Munich, Germany said that he will ban from city buildings events that seek to delegitimize Israel:

Contrast this with the actions of Paul Finer and his minions in White Plains who bent over backwards to allow and support anti-Israel, pro-BDS groups holding meetings in their public spaces.

FOR SHAME, PAUL FINER (Town Supervisor, Town of Greenburgh, NY)

BETAR, Jabotinsky and the Shtetl
Throughout the 1930s, Jewish political movements in Warsaw set out to transform the hearts and minds of Jewish youth in small towns across Poland. Among these urban activists were the leaders of Betar, the youth movement of Vladimir Jabotinsky's Revisionist party. Armed with longstanding stereotypes about shtetl life, Betar leaders were certain that bringing "modernity" and "progress" to these towns would mobilize their youth for the Zionist cause. Drawing on YIVO's collection of youth autobiographies from the 1930s, and previously unexamined correspondence between Betar's headquarters in Warsaw and its small-town outposts, Daniel Heller (McGill University) reveals the tensions that arose between these urban activists and the young Jews they sought to transform.
