YOM HA'ATZMAUT SAMEACH ISRAEL!
3,000 years old and 71 years young! AFSI is thrilled to be celebrating Israel @ 71. It was this time last year that our Chizuk Mission Trip had the privilege to be in Israel and join in the festivities for Israel @70. In a little over two weeks our group will be travelling to Israel and looks forward to visits throughout the land, meeting with the people....and the enjoying the food!

To Be Continued?

A dozen US rabbis from across the major denominations met Wednesday morning with the publisher and editorial page editor of The New York Times regarding the anti-Semitic cartoon it published and its general coverage of Israel.

The 90 minute meeting was organized through the New York Board of Rabbis. Rabbi Joseph Potasnik, the group's executive vice president, said A.G. Sulzberger and James Bennet, the publisher and editorial page editor, "owned the problem" of the cartoon being anti-Semitic.

AFSI applauds the New York Board of Rabbis for initiating this important meeting. However, we know all too well that change lies solely in the hands of The New York Times so that their disgraceful 120 year history of anti-Semitism can be reversed.
When Will They Learn?
The European Union as Enabler

The latest report from Palestinian Media Watch reveals that the European Union has decided to help the PA and its leader Mahmoud Abbas to continue paying salaries to terrorists by pledging to give the PA 15 million euros to cover salaries for public employees - the very salaries Abbas cut in order to keep up the PA's financial rewards to terrorists.

The EU's decision is contradictory to its recent announcement that it's against payment of salaries to terrorists. Doesn't the EU realize that their recent decision enables payment of monies to terrorists?

On Tuesday, May 14, the Redeemer Episcopal Church in Astoria will be hosting "Celebrating Palestinian Resistance," an event sponsored by the local Democratic Socialists, with speakers from two city-based pro-Palestine groups. The description reads: "Timed to coincide with commemoration of the Nakba....
.
"It is happening in Astoria, Queens. The small Jewish community of Astoria is asking the pro-Israel community to join us in confronting this event," said Zelig Krymko, a local resident whose daughter is attending school in Israel. "We were told by the organizer, Caleb Dejong, who is a member of the board of the church, that our opinions won't be welcome at this event, and that saying controversial things about Palestine won't be tolerated."

The event will take place at the Redeemer Episcopal Church at 3014 Crescent Street on Tuesday, May 14, 6 pm - 9 pm. Anyone interested in protesting this event should contact Zelig Krymko at zeligkrymko@yahoo.com. He will be holding a meeting ahead of the event on organizing the pro-Israel response.

This year's theme is Only in Israel – Rak B'Yisrael
Where in order to be a realist, you must believe in miracles.
Where ancient villages stand beside ultra-modern cities.
Where a 2,000 year old language was resurrected for modern speech.
Where exiles from the four corners of the world have come home.
Where skill and chutzpah together make the impossible come true.
Where barren deserts are transformed into flourishing fields.
Where diverse cultures produce a fusion of global cuisine.
Where pioneers build new frontiers in science and technology.
Where water can be produced from thin air.
Where those with incurable diseases are cured.
Where if you will it, it is no dream.
Only in Israel! – Rak B'Yisrael!
