This year's RCRF "Dinner" was a beautiful event, albeit adapted to the Covid regulations and held in the Manhattan Beach Jewish Center ballroom. It was MC'd by Dr. Paul Brody, who began the program with the singing of the National Anthem and Hatikvah ...
This dinner was another success story.
The ambiance was raised to new levels in the elegant ballroom with just enough seating for select individuals to comply with Covid regulations and then there was Tefilla beTzibur, prayer services, to justify the number of attendees.
Dinner was elegantly prepackaged to be taken on the way out... so the emphasis was on networking and content.
Evelyn Haies with the support of her husband Jay and her kids and spouses and grandchildren, arranged all the details, the venue, the speakers, the food, the cake, the video, the photography, the journal, the poetry in honor of Momma Rochel, everyone contributing their individual talents and expertise in order to make this dinner extra special :)
Rabbi Tokayer, the Rav of Kingsway Jewish Center, introduced by Melonie Marmer Esq. spoke about the resilience of the Jewish people. The RCRF Dinner has been going on for 26 years he said and Covid was not going to stop this Dinner from happening.
Rachel Imeinu epitomizes resilience when it comes to love of a fellow Jew and love for her children.
Evelyn spoke with great pride about her Sefer Torah acquired by RCRF and what Rachel Imeinu strives for.
Her grandchildren, Miriam and Rivka Scop sweetly read their poem on the theme Education Matters "Children's Lives Matter", "Mitzvahs, Midos and Miracles".
Rabbi Yonah Weinreb, author, artist and illuminist, introduced by Debra Scop, spoke beautifully about Rochel Imeinu. Only Rochel Imeinu has the honor of being called Momma Rochel. Rabbi Weinreb spoke about a Gadol Reb Chaim who came to Momma Rochel's Kever and cried..."Momma Vaint" which in Yiddish means "Momma Cry". He was asked by his Talmid, how can you contradict what was told to Rochel Imeinu , "Refrain from Crying". Reb Chaim responded, Hashem comes to Rochel Imeinu like a Father comforting His daughter and asks her to stop crying. But I come to Momma Rochel, like a child begging for her to please continue to cry for us.
After a great intro by Malky Grunwald, Evelyn's granddaughter, the lights dimmed and we were treated to award winning musical video "Mira" produced by Danny Finkelman written and composed by Cecilia Margules starring Dudu Fisher and "We Are Rachel's Children" also produced by Danny Finkelman with lyrics by Evelyn Haies rendition Gad Elbaz with an introduction by Vivian Singer.
Memories of Bruce Mayroff ob"m were honored, introduced by Jay Haies accepted by his daughter Margo in the name of his wife Muriel Mayroff. A Tribute to AFSI Executive Director, Helen Freedman ob"m honored and the tribute was accepted by AFSI member Robin Ticker in the name of Judy (Freedman) Kadish, Helen's daughter and the current Chairwoman of AFSI. MC Dr. Brody as well spoke about how much Helen, through AFSI and now through her daughter Judy are doing so much for the Klal.
Please refer to the journal link below for tributes written in their honor!
Robin Ticker remarked that just like AFSI Events aren't measured by the number of attendees but rather by the quality of the attendees, each person being a gem, so too this year's Dinner limited in size is surely valued up in heaven since every attendee and effort was a work of love on behalf of Rochel Imeinu.

https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=3212605342181370&id=410097565765509Thank you so much to everyone who joined us at last night's 26th annual yahrzeit dinner honoring Rachel Imeinu. Our MC Dr Paul Brody was there to make sure the evening went smoothly. Rabbi Etan Tokayer, of the Kingsway Jewish Center, was our keynote speaker. A talented artist and inspired author, Rabbi Yonah Weinrib, has devoted his life to illuminating and portraying the Torah through his beautiful artwork. He also spoke, offering up beautiful divrei Torah. Danny Finkelman, received the Actualist Award for his video productions and collaborations with RCRF Founder Evelyn Haies and composer Cecilia Margules. Gad Elbaz's rendition of Evelyn's lyrics, "We are Rachel's Children," was played. As was Cecilia's beautiful and award-winning film "Mira" about her aunt, a young girl who was caught in the horrors of the Holocaust. RCRF also honored the memories of Bruce Bayroff and Helen Freedman, who had both done so much for the Jewish community. Social distancing was strictly observed, with masks and limited seating available for the evening's events. You can check out our picture gallery from the dinner by clicking on the link below:
