What's Happening to American Journalism?

Columnist Michael Goodwin has an insightful piece in today's New York Post titled, American journalism is collapsing before our eyes. In it, he castigates the passing of legitimate, (relatively) non-biased journalism in America and its replacement by overtly opinionated journalism. This is most obviously identified by the partisanship of the mainstream media for Hillary Clinton and the attempt to bury Donald Trump.

Here a few passages from his piece:
The frenzy to bury Trump is not limited to the Clinton campaign and the Obama White House. They are working hand in hand with what was considered the cream of the nation's news organizations.

The shameful display of naked partisanship by the elite media is unlike anything seen in modern America.

The largest broadcast networks - CBS, NBC and ABC - and major newspapers like the New York Times and Washington Post have jettisoned all pretense of fair play.

Their fierce determination to keep Trump out of the Oval Office has no precedent.

Indeed, no foreign enemy, no terror group, no native criminal gang suffers the daily beating that Trump does. The mad mullahs of Iran, who call America the Great Satan and vow to wipe Israel off the map, are treated gently by comparison.

Read it all via the link above.

Run
How Far Can You Run in 20 Seconds?

The following is from Israeli Lt. Col. Peter Lerner's Facebook page

Today Gaza terrorists launched a rocket at Israel. The rocket hit the town of Sderot where some 19000 people live. Thankfully, despite the attacker's intentions, the rocket failed to wound anybody. In response, the IDF responded and attacked two Hamas positions. At the #Olympics Usain Bolt ran and won the men's 200m in less than 20 seconds. Now think about this: In the communities surrounding Gaza people have less than 15 seconds to reach a shelter and take cover. Please share.

In response to the attack, IAF aircraft targeted this evening Hamas positions in the northern Gaza Strip.

Since the beginning of 2016, 14 rockets fired from the Gaza Strip have hit Israel.

The IDF remains committed to the stability of the region and will operate in order to bring quiet to the people of southern Israel. When terrorists in Hamas' Gaza Strip, driven by a radical agenda based on hatred, attack people in the middle of the summer vacation, their intentions are clear - to inflict pain, cause fear and to terrorize.

Jonathan Grauman,
AFSI's Research Analyst

Despite heat-index temperatures soaring above 100 degrees, 80 hardy New York area residents gathered for the annual Tisha B'Av prayer service at the UN's dramatic Isaiah Peace Wall yesterday.

Behind police barricades draped with a large Israeli flag and dozens of signs expressing prayers for the security of Israel and Jewish communities across the Diaspora, including the threat of the BDS movement, Rabbi Avi Weiss led the Mincha service, as Cantor Irving Ruderman led the prayers and read from a Torah scroll.

Glenn Richter kicked off the afternoon by providing a short history about this event and reminding the crowd of the importance of gatherings such as this. He mentioned that this was the 39th consecutive year that Tisha B'Av services were being held in front of the UN.

Rabbi Weiss stated that one of the changes from last year was that "Jonathan Pollard is out of the Butner federal prison, but still in a state of semi-incarceration here in New York." He led the worshippers in a chant, "We're with you, Jonathan! We're with you, Jonathan!"

Shimon Mercer-Wood, the spokesperson of the New York Israeli Consulate, and the consul for media affairs, spoke about the meaning of Tisha B'Av today, stating
"Tisha B'Av is a very bitter time and a time of truth. Perhaps because of that, no place could be better than to mark Tisha B'Av than opposite that building which is the seat of so much falsehood."

Jonathan Grauman, Americans for a Safe Israel's Research Analyst, detailed to the crowd a myriad of ways they could assist Israel. "Zionism is not a dirty word," he declared. "It is probably the only 'ism' in history that sprang forth from a noble cause and succeeded."

He then suggested to the crowd ways in which those living in America can support Israel from afar, stating, "Learn about Jewish and Israeli history! Be armed with the truth to refute the lies and distortions that Israel haters spew forth. Shop Israel. Sponsor "Buycott Kiddushes at your synagogues. Write letters, emails, comments, etc. to challenge the lies in the media. Believe the threats of anti-Semites and Israel haters!"

AFSI's Grauman continued, "We must support the right of Jews to live everywhere in Israel, and that includes all of Yerushalayim and Judea and Samaria, the cradle of Jewish civilization. Jews do not live in illegal settlements. Our Torah is the deed that proves it is Jewish land!"

Yesterday's Tisha B'Av service was sponsored by Amcha-Coalition for Jewish Concerns, along with Americans for a Safe Israel, and the SSSJ.

Amona2
A report in Israel's leftist newspaper Haaretz states that the US is warning Israel that relocating the town of Amona deviates from Prime Minister Netanyahu's "commitment" to Obama:
(Note: if the full article does not display after clicking on the link above, it might display from doing a Google search on the title.)

One of the problems with this report is that the US State Department twisted Netanyahu's statement of intent, and is incorrectly calling it a commitment (Yes, words do matter.) The obvious problem, of course, is that the US continues to meddle in Israel's internal affairs (what else is new?)

Member of Knesset Liberman had proposed a compromise by which Amona would be moved to uninhabited land nearby, but members of the community are vehemently against moving whatsover.

Ironically, the US is criticizing Israel for potentially moving Amona to an area that has been abandoned; there is no expropriation of privately owned land whatsoever.

This shows the obvious intent of Obama and his administration: to make Yehuda and Shomron Judenrein; cleansed of Jews.

AFSI stands with the people of Amona and states affirmatively, THERE SHOULD BE NO DISPLACEMENT AND RELOCATION OF ANY OF THE HOMES IN AMONA, AND CERTAINLY, NO DESTRUCTION!

To: Robin Ticker <faigerayzel@gmail.com>

Dear Friends,

Join us for an evening of support for the tremendously brave families living in the heart of the Old City of Jerusalem tonight, August 10th in the Young Israel of Great Neck (236 Middle Neck Road) at 8:15 PM.   The program will feature a new film and an unforgettable presentation.

Tears are simply not enough on this Tisha B'Av.  We need to support our brethren who are residing in Jerusalem in security-challenged areas.  THESE COURAGEOUS FAMILIES ARE INSTRUMENTAL IN FILLING THE OLD CITY WITH JEWISH LIFE, GUARANTEEING ACCESS TO OUR OUR JEWISH HOLY SITES, AND KEEPING  JERUSALEM UNITED.  As we know, much of the tragedy and destruction that has befallen the Jewish people were a result of baseless hatred and division.  On this Tisha B'Av, may our unconditional support and love for Jewish families living in Jerusalem, who are at risk without our help, merit Hashem's mercy.

Friends of Ateret Cohanim/Jerusalem Chai will use all donations to fund summer programs and secure playgrounds, which give children a much needed respite from dangers they face every day, in addition to critically needed security cameras.

Light refreshments will be served.

Hoping to see you tonight,

Lynne

PRESS RELEASE: Historic and Breaking News: NY has Three Jewish Republican Candidates Running for Congress. Woodmere Reception for Congressman Lee Zeldin Great Success! Congressman Zeldin was joined with Political Novices Dr. Philip J. Rosenthal and David Gurfein at Event.

בס"ד

PRESS RELEASE FROM CINDY GROSZ

Subject: Historic  and Breaking News:  NY has Three Jewish Republican Candidates Running for Congress
A First For Any State During Same Election Cycle
Jewish politicians are no longer a strictly Democrat one-party choice.  Throughout New York Jewish Republican and mostly Conservative party candidates are popping up throughout the state in local and state primaries and as candidates on the ballots for the big November elections.

Lee Zeldin speaking at the crowd

Congressman Zeldin Joins Political Novices Rosenthal and Gurfein at  Event. Pro Israel Activist Cindy Grosz with all 3 Jewish Republican Candidates.

Pro Israel and Education Activist Cindy Grosz endorses Alan Zwirn for the Assemble Seat vacated by Phil Goldfeder in the Orthodox areas within and surrounding the Five Towns and Queens

Congressman Lee Zeldin of first district of Long Island is currently the only Jewish Republican in the House of Representatives.   He is running for his second term.  Since joining the House in 2014, Zeldin has been outspoken about his opposition to the Iran Nuclear Deal and the growth of international terrorist groups that target Jews worldwide.  Even The New York Times in a July 2015 article recognized and somewhat praised Zeldin's outspoken and visual presence, rare for a freshman official.

As a member of the Jewish War Veterans and a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee, he has looked to for leadership on both national and international security issues.  Many recall his questioning of Secretary of State John Kerry during the Iran Nuclear Deal hearings.

As a father of two young daughters, he is concerned about the lessons taught in classrooms that distort the facts and engage students in building opinions against Jews and  Israel that result in anti-Semitism.  He is also one of the most outspoken elected officials against the BDS (Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions) movement and college campus violence relates to it.

Meet Dr. Philip J . Rosenthal, running in New York's 10th District.  He is getting national attention for taking on veteran Jerald Nadler, who has been criticized for his support of the Iran Nuclear Deal and has not voiced concerns over the current positions on the DNC platform.  Currently, Phil sits on the board of the Endowment for Middle East Truth (EMET), a 501(c)(3) think tank and policy center with an unabashedly pro-America and pro-Israel stance.  He also is a very proud member of the Leadership Council of the Republican Jewish Coalition.

"The Iran deal is just the tip of the iceberg.  For example, our treatment of Israel has been shameful.  Secretary Kerry called Israel an apartheid state, the President has threatened to withdraw American support for Israel at the UN, and the Administration just indicated virtual support for European labeling of Israeli products.  I am running because New York needs a representative who can distinguish between an ally and an enemy with clarity, and who will speak up for allies like Israel and our national security when it counts the most," Rosenthal said.

David Gurfein is a veteran running on Long Island in the 4th District.  His background as a veteran is pivotal for security on all matters.   His family includes the following:  a Jewish Uncle who was a US Army Colonel serving in WWII, Korea and Vietnam. He has a Jewish Nephew who is an IDF and US Marine Corps Major who served in Afghanistan and Iraq.  His half-brother lives in Jerusalem, along with multiple extended family.    Hundreds of Gurfeins were murdered during WWII simply for being Jewish.  He is related to both Yaccov Gurfein who survived an extermination by jumping from a train headed to Sobibor Death Camp and testified at the Nuremberg Trials  (http://www.holocaustresearchproject.org/revolt/sobijumper.html) and to Murray Gurfein a Federal Judge and US Army Lt. Colonel who served as a prosecuting attorney at the Nuremberg Trials

Gurfein faces a significant challenge from Democrat opponent Kathleen Rice, because she stood up as a freshman congresswoman to the Obama administration against the Iran Nuclear Deal and to terrorism and recently supported the addition of security of many Jewish institutions within her district.   He feels he is strong.

Locally, New Yorkers have an open seat in the Assembly, due to the retiring (D-Rockaway Park) Philip Goldfeder,  and have the option to vote for Rockaway Republican Club President Alan Zwirn, endorsed by both the republican and conservative parties and their leaders.  His opponent seems to have different concerns than Goldfeder, and will probably not be able to unite and work with democrats, republicans and conservatives the way Assemblymen Goldfeder did the past decade.

Sincerely,

Robin Ticker

Let us express our appreciation to a man who is good for Israel!

Congressman Lee Zeldin is the ONLY Jewish Republican in the House of Representatives.

He serves on three U.S. House Committees, including Foreign Affairs and Veterans' Affairs.

He was, and continues to be one of the most outspoken opposers of the Iran Nuclear Deal.

Congressman Zeldin serves as co-chairman of the House Republican Israel Caucus, which has over 100 members. His work has been recognized by multiple Jewish organizations as is endorsed by the Republican Jewish Coalition.

Trumping Convention At The RNC By Joseph Frager, MD Front Page Five Towns Jewish Times

BS"D

http://5tjt.com/trumping-convention-at-the-rnc/  for full article. July 28, 2016

Donald Trump said, "We must work with all of our allies who share our goal of destroying ISIS and stamping out Islamic terror. This includes working with our closest ally in the region, the State of Israel." That statement should have pleased the pro-Israel camp. He will no doubt treat Israel as a true and respected ally. It will be a far cry from the Obama years during which Israel has been treated as a pariah state.
