Goldsmith
Meet Rabbi Moshe and Leah Goldsmith of Itamar, Israel
Wednesday, September 21, 7:30 PM

Rabbi Moshe and Leah Goldsmith have led in the development of their beautiful community, Itamar, in the Shomron. Rabbi Goldsmith served as Mayor of Itamar for many years, with Leah always at his side. When the Fogel family was brutally killed by Arab infiltrators into their community, the Goldsmiths went on a countrywide tour speaking about the horrific terror attack. AFSI has visited there many times, most recently spending
beautiful Shabbat in the Goldsmith home.

Itamar is a large, thriving, beautiful community in the Shomron. With a growing Yeshiva, organic farming at Givat Olam, great views of two biblical heights, Har Gerizim and Har Ebal, the mountains of blessing and cursing, and overlooking Shechem,
Itamar is a must-visit on your next trip to Israel.

The event is open free to the public.
All donations will go to the Itamar community.

At the West Side Institutional Synagogue, 120 West 76th Street, NYC

Contact AFSI: 212-828-2424; judy@afsi.org to make reservations.

ADL

The ADL's former and current directors,
Abe Foxman and Jonathan Greenblatt

Commentary Magazine posted an article yesterday by Jonathan Tobin, titled, The ADL Takes Sides Against Israel. In it he asks whether the new head of the organization, Jonathan Greenblatt, will stand up for Israel.

He has received an answer. Foreign Policy published an article by Greenblatt in which he echoes the Obama adminisration's sharp criticism of Prime Minister Netanyahu for his recent "ethnic cleansing" video.

As Tobin writes,
Greenblatt's decision to side with the Obama administration against the government of Israel is telling.

For Greenblatt to re-position ADL from its former centrist position as a mainstream address for pro-Israel activism to one that is now in open opposition to the democratically-elected government of Israel is a sea change of enormous importance. From now on, ADL must be viewed as an ally of J Street and others on the left who make no secret of their partisanship in the context of both Israeli politics and the tense relations between Israel and the United States. This is a betrayal of ADL's long and honorable legacy as a group that sought to speak for the interests of the Jewish community as a whole and respected the right of Israel's people and their leaders to make their own decisions about security.

Isi Liebler wrote a must-read scathing piece in today's Jerusalem Post criticizing Greenblatt:

He concludes with the following:
It would seem that in the post-Abe Foxman era, the ADL board has knowingly empowered an individual whose outlook is not only liberal but effectively represents an echo chamber of left-wing Democratic politics. In fact, despite Greenblatt's protestations of love for Israel and reiteration that the US Israel nexus is strong, especially after finalization of the defense agreement, the ADL's approach to Israel is similar to that of J Street, having no hesitation in telling Israelis that it knows better than they do what is good for them.

This is a worrisome situation. American Jews should inform the ADL board that by enabling their CEO to make such partisan statements they are causing enormous harm to Israel during this critical period, when retaining US public opinion is of crucial prominence.

If the ADL fails to act, American Jews should question whether they should continue supporting what was until recently a venerable mainstream Jewish organization, which has now been hijacked by a CEO whose outlook is more in common with J Street and less concerned with combating antisemitism and supporting the embattled Jewish state.

Liebler asks, Should we continue to support the ADL? The answer is obvious.
